Visitation: Mary Journeys to Visit Elizabeth

“Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear!" (Luke 1:42)
Today is a very special feast... the VISITATION of our Mother Mary to her cousin Elizabeth. It's so inspiring! If we would take time to reflect on our Blessed Virgin Mary's actions… Mother Mary went in haste to assist her cousin Elizabeth as she was about to give birth to John the Baptist.
"In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a town in Judah, and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth." (Luke 1:39-40)
As we celebrate this feast, Mary indeed is teaching us an exceptional lesson about so many things.
1.   Mary is SELFLESS. If we would remember, Mary was going through a lot of challenges as well during that time… She was also carrying our Lord Jesus Christ unto her womb. She could have been worrying as well because of the situation but still she didn’t forget the need of others… she still cared for Elizabeth and went in a hurry to be with her and to take care of her cousin. How admirable!
2.   Mary is a REAL SERVANT. Aside from thinking less about herself, Mama Mary cared more than enough just to be with her old cousin and assist Elizabeth on her needs. Mary didn’t hesitate walking that long and struggling to reach out to Elizabeth. It’s not a simple tour that she did but she really took a long journey just to be there for her cousin and help her. Served her without complaining but with compassion and love.
3.   Mary is A TRUE FRIEND. Mary went to Elizabeth with sense of urgency. She knew her cousin needed her. She could have made an excuse like, “Sorry, Elizabeth, I am going through a personal problem as well, I can’t be with you. Please look for someone else to assist you.” MARY journeyed to BE WITH Elizabeth when she needed her the most. True friends are like that, they may not be there during good or happy times, but they will be with their friend when burdens seemed to be unbearable. No BUTs, no IFs.
4.   MARY is an EVANGELIST. Mary proclaims the Word of God to others through her actions. Her gestures of charity, compassion and love are truly moving. Mary is filled with love because she was carrying JESUS. Such a great challenge to evangelize through action and not just through words.
These actions of Mary are very significant points in reflecting and checking actions in everyday life. May we also be filled with love of CHRIST in being selfless, real servant for others, true friend and evangelist with compassionate and caring heart for others in our every word and action.
MAMA MARY, thank You for the inspiration. Help us in everything that we say and do. Visit and meet us also. Bring us closer to Jesus and help us to bring Jesus to others as well. Pray for us always. Amen.
